It is believed that when 08th century tantric master Guru Rinpoche meditated in a cave in Bumthang, he left his body print onto the rocks and since then these rocks and cave, subsequently the temples have been called “Kurjey” or “body print” – more accurately “honorable body print” The first of the temples was built in 17th century and it was around the cave that Guru meditated. Then 2nd temple was built in the start of the 20th century and then the third one recently in 1958
